The trek starts at Rwenzori mountains national park main gate situated in Mihanga, Nyakalengija 1648 meters above the sea level. Our guide will handle the orientation and brief you on the DOS and DONTS of the national park.

BEGIN RWENZORI ADVENTURE

DAY 1

Start at the park main gate and proceed to the first camp called Nyabitaba at 2651 meters above the sea level for your first night in the snow capped mountains. The trek takes about 4- 6 hours, the trail at the beginning goes through homes, and dense bushes. Certain animals such as monkeys, three horned chameleon, Rwenzori turaco may be spotted. The trail begins by passing through the farmland to the park till the park boundary beyond and it allows you to follow the river Mubuku, crossing its Mohama tributary before starting a long steep climb up to Nyabitaba camp. This trek takes around 4-6 hours. During the trek you may hear calls or sound of Chamipanzee , black and white colobus monkey, blue monkey, different bird species like the Rwenzori turaco, see the three horned chameleon and spot footmarks of the mountain elephants, seeing the different plant species, and all this will be in the rain forest.

 

Day 2 : Nyabitaba (2651m) to Johnmaate Hut (3505m)

From Nyabitaba you descend to your right trail that drops down through the bamboo zone, boggy spot, slippery moss-covered rocks. This takes 5-6 hours.  In the same trail, Mount Speke and Mount Stanley can be seen before getting into the zone of the giant lobelia and groundsel.

 

DAY3: JOHN MAATE (3505m) to BUJUKU (3977)

From John Maate Hut, the trail drops down to cross the two Bigo Bogs and walk boards, which are often knee-deep in mud, a boardwalk has been constructed to make it easy for you to walk. Lake Bujuku has a magnificent setting between mounts Speke and Stanley. This is a 3-5 hours walk.

 

Day 4 Bujuku (3977m) to Elena Hut (4541m). 

The trail takes you through more bog, while climbing the steep slopes west of the lake, to Elena Hut and Mount Stanley on a steep trail over large boulders.

Be ready to have dinner and overnight at the cooly and icy Elena Hut.

 

Day 5: Elena to Margherita peak (5109m) to Kitandara Hut (4023m)

Our aim here is to reach Margherita peak, continue to the base of Stanley glacier. To reach the summit of Margherita, the climb takes about 5 hours depending on the weather conditions.

 

Day 6: Kitandara (4023) to Guy Yeoman (3505m) TO NYABITABA HUT (2651m)

This stage starts with a steep ascent to the freshfield pass (4282) From Kitandara, take on the trail that ascends. On this trail you will be able to see Mount Baker and some parts of Congo. The descend to Nyabitaba takes 6-7 hours, walking.

Day 7: Nyabitaba Hut early retracing out back to Rwenzori mountains national park MAIN gate.

This descending walk takes 2-4 hours. We return to Kasese and will stay for one night in Kasese the Gem of the Pearl of Africa for a retreat.
