About Company
Great Expeditions East Africa
With the rapid growth of the World Wide Web, there are countless specialist tour operators out there these days. It’s understandable to ask, “Why choose these guys?” But let me explain what makes Great Expeditions EA truly different.
After gaining over five years of experience across East African countries and working with a prominent telecom company, Cate felt compelled to pursue her passion for tourism. She recognized the need for a budget-friendly tour company that would make East Africa—especially Uganda—more accessible. Cate wanted to challenge the common perception that “It’s too expensive to visit East Africa,” and so Great Expeditions EA was born.
At Great Expeditions EA, we focus on providing affordable travel experiences without compromising on quality, making us the trusted choice for all your tour and travel needs in East Africa.

What Our Traveler Say About
Our Tour Services
Posted on Beth AdamsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Kalema provided a fantastic trip for me! It was better than anticipated, and I had high expectations to begin with! She and her driver took us to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary; Murchison Falls; Queen Elizabeth (including a specific tracking drive for lions and leopards); chimp, gorilla, and golden monkey trekking; a cooking class; and a last minute swamp tour to find the elusive shoebill stork! Kalema has a wealth of knowledge and an eagle eye to be able to spot animals that amazed me. It was one of the top experiences of my life, and I travel fairly extensively. I definitely recommend that you let Kalema curate your travels around East Africa and beyond!Posted on Christian SchwarzTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Thank you Great Expeditions East Africa, especially Kalema and Moses for the wonderful trip to Murchison Falls National Park and Kidepo Valley National Park. We got a lot of beautiful views and watched so many different animals at the game drives and boat cruise. Thank you to Heritage Safari Lodge for hosting us. It is a well organized Lodge next to Murchison Falls National Park. But Savannah Lodge at Kidepo Valley National Park was not treating us well. Next time we will look for another accommodation nearby. Thanks for everything. Me and my fiancé love you so much. For our next trip we shell keep in touch. We are so grateful to the trip.
Posted on Hobo@heartVerified Amazing East Africa trip We had an amazing time on our trip in Rwanda and Uganda. Danny our driver/guide was fantastic, very personable and friendly, took us to amazing places and always knew how to get the best views. Kalema organised the trip for us, she was very friendly and helpful too. Would definitely recommend both Danny and Kalema.Gorillas and chimpanzee trekking was a highlight and not too strenuous. Tree climbing lions was great to see too, as were the shoebill storks. In fact we saw so many amazing things, too many to mention! The accommodation and food were all to a high standard.Posted on MMousieVerified A Trip of A Lifetime! Where do I begin. This was the most amazing expedition! Kalema and Emmanuel made our journey unforgettable. From the moment we arrived to our sad departure, we were treated like royalty. Nothing was too much to ask. We had 8 incredible days with GREAT EXPEDITIONS . We visited the Bahai Mosque, Uganda National Mosque, Botanical Gardens and the Mabamba Swamp tour where we saw the elusive Shoe bill Stork. We also visited the school founded by Kalema (Lungala Education Centre) and it was truly a heartwarming experience. We were given the opportunity to interact with the students and actually spent an hour teaching a class. The children were so engaging and their commitment to learning was very apparent. We did a chimpanzee trek and of course, the gorilla trek and both were incredibly amazing. We stayed in the most wonderful hotel and lodges during our stay and had wonderful meals throughout. The conversations and the camaraderie developed during our journeys will never be forgotten. I left Uganda with so many memories and emotions. I left a part of me behind because I know a return is in my future. Thank you Kalema and Great Expeditions for making my dream more than a reality. You made it a mission with the final outcome yet to be determined…until we meet again.Posted on Beth MVerified The most amazing experience Great Expeditions provided the most amazing curated tour of Uganda for me! It exceeded my expectations in both the depth of knowledge of Kalema and her driver and their ability to spot animals! I would definitely recommend this company for your East Africa visits! Kalema is an amazing woman, tour guide, and business person! You can trust her with your holiday. There are so many more pictures!Posted on IP DVerified Once in a lifetime gorilla trek in Uganda! My husband was on business in Kenya so we had considered traveling to Uganda to see the gorillas in Bwindi Park. Kate picked us up at Entebbe airport, arranged a home stay for us, showed us the school she is tirelessly supporting, then took us on a city tour of Kampala. We enjoyed the fish soup and plantain meal with Kate’s lovely family and then headed on a long drive to Bwindi. The lodge we stayed at was heavenly with great food, and we were well prepared to trek with our guide to see the gorillas (bring a mask and hire a Porter for US$20). I just can’t explain how thrilling it is to see these majestic creatures in the wild. We keep looking at our photos because of the incredible memories. We then were driven to Rwanda for our flight to Nairobi. Godfrey was a safe driver and I especially enjoyed the scenic ride past the tea plantations once we crossed the border. Kate is an excellent communicator and worked within our budget. Thank you so much, our great expectations were surpassed with great expeditions.Posted on remmebrVerified Best Experience Ever This was my first trip to Africa and after this experience with Great Expeditions, it won’t be my last trip with them. The travel planner listened to everything I wanted to accomplish (which was a blend of animals and local culture), and it greatly exceeded my expectations. Great expeditions really went out of their way to make everything memorable. What really put me at ease was my instant connection with the tour owner, Kalema, and her driver Robert. They were thoughtful, knowledgeable, punctual, reliable and kind. For anyone who has driven in urban areas of Uganda, you can understand how chaotic traffic can be. Great Expeditions driver, Robert, made us feel safe and secure, which made our trip very relaxed. Great Expeditions planned a well-rounded balance of culture and animals. It became apparent that this company had a special connection to some of the tribal communities/villages, which made us receive special treatment (especially when talking to others traveler experiences who did a similar tour). The cultural visits were very authentic and we learned a ton about tribes, traditions, unique foods, and medicinal remedies for those who are living off of the land. We even were able to visit a local Ugandan family and have an authentic lunch that they cooked for us. Aside from these incredible events, Great Expeditions arranged chimpanzee trekking in Kibale, Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi, and visited a school in Mpigi that they help support through Corporate Social Responsibility. At the end of the trip, Kalema who is the owner, went into the gift shop at the lodge and bought gifts for us to bring home to my boyfriends daughter. She even overheard my boyfriend saying that he wanted a Uganda soccer jersey, which she showed up with as a surprise gift for my him. Once we left Uganda, we went to Kenya for a safari, and Kalema/Great Expeditions kept in touch each day to make sure that we were safe and checked-in to see if we needed anything (even though they weren’t traveling with us for this portion of the trip). All-in-all, this trip exceeded my expectations and was the most memorable experience ever (and I have traveled the world). I am picky and have high expectations and I have no hesitation recommending Great Expeditions for anyone who is looking for an amazing and unique experience. Don’t hesitate to book them, just do it…you won’t be disappointed.Posted on charlotte bVerified Fun homestay and city tour My friend and I did a homestay and tour of Kampala with Catie. She was super friendly and we learned more about the local dishes. She also took us into the city and shared her knowledge about the history. She made sure we were safe and comfortable and we just had loads of fun!Posted on Passport333290Verified Gorillas in the wild My mom and I booked a gorilla expedition for my birthday. Kaleema did an amazing job. First we went on a chimpanzee trek, which was super cool. Kaleema also got us who I think was the best guide. I’m sure all the guides were good, but ours was really good at getting us to good angles so we could get good photos, and anticipating where the chimps were likely to move so we could be in a position so they were coming towards us! lions! We did a day of gorilla trekking and a day of gorilla habituation in Bwindi. Both were amazing, and again Kaleema did a great job of getting us with the groups and with guides best suited to us. Between the two, I’d say the habituation was a closer experience with the gorillas. The trek was great, but it felt like there was always someone with a phone trying to get a selfie w the gorillas in the way because it was a bigger group. We stayed at two different ecolodges in Bwindi. Both were lovely, and felt like we were in a (very fancy) treehouse in the clouds. Kaleema also has worked with both of them to ensure they could meet our admittedly difficult dietary restrictions! We had a lot of specific requests and Kaleema did a great job of making sure we got everything we wanted from the trip! It was really fantastic!I do have to say, gorilla trekking and habituation are not for the faint of heart. It’s pretty physically intense, and the roads to get there are rough…it was worth it to me, just something to keep in mind when booking.Posted on Vinod GVerified Fabulous and Unforgettable Trip I had the best experience at Murchison falls and National Safari with Great expedition. I appreciate the team and we really had fun at the safari and its worth to move with Great expeditions. waiting for dec one more time to have fun and i know the Great expeditions team is going to take care of me and my stay.Posted on Shimaa alhajVerified Tour in Kampala Best guide ever she know Uganda well and help you to make your trip good , highly recommended to everyone visit East Africa, thank you a lotPosted on Alison GVerified Best guide for Uganda and East Africa! I had the best experience with Great Expeditions! Kalema was so helpful and thoughtful and made my trip in Uganda very memorable. It started right from the airport pick up! Kalema passed on so much knowledge about Uganda's history while doing a Kampala Walking Tour and Village tour. She helped organize a white water rafting trip on the Nile River and even helped get me a tailor-made traditional skirt! I can't recommend Great Expeditions enough! If you want to really immerse yourself in the Ungandab culture book with Great Expeditions!
